Ajalooring oli nõukogude ajal Tartu ülikooli ajalootudengite ja õppejõudude ühendus, mis ametlikult oli osa Üliõpilaste Teaduslikust Ühingust. Kuigi tegemist oli ametliku organisatsiooniga, pakkus ajalooring võimalust üsna vabaks diskussiooniks üliõpilaste ja õppejõudude vahel. 1980ndate lõpus oli Ajalooring kasvulavaks kasvavale protestivaimule. Ajalooringi arhiiv, mis on hoiul Rahvusarhiivis, sisaldab rohkelt dokumente Ajalooringi tegevuse kohta. Kuigi dokumendid järgivad formaalselt sageli nõukogulikku retoorikat, peegeldavad nad ka iroonilist ja kriitilist hoiakut režiimi suhtes ning kajastavad vaba õhkkonda, mis valitses ringis nii uurimistöös kui suhtluses.

ARS – First Series Collection

This collection contains the original issues of ARS – Review of Culture, Art and Science, a literary journal first published from 1986 to 1989 in Montenegro. The circle of intellectuals associated with ARS anticipated many of the social and political issues that escalated into the worst forms of nationalism in the early 1990s, leading to the dissolution of Yugoslavia. Because of their non-conformist attitudes, members of ARS, and its publisher, the Literary Municipality of Cetinje, found themselves under pressure by the communist regime. Consequently, the journal was forced to cease publication in 1989.

Action of Light Collection

The collection consists of artefacts about the 'Action of Light', established by Paulis Kļaviņš, which operated in the 1970s and 1980s. It aimed to support religious dissidents and human rights campaigners in Latvia, and to inform the public in the West about the real situation in Soviet Latvia.

The collection illustrates Adrian Marino’s intellectual evolution as a historian and literary critic who chose to pursue his activity outside the institutions controlled by the communist regime. The Marino Collection includes books, original manuscripts, and the author’s correspondence, which reflects a critical perspective on Romanian literary life in the period 1964–1989.

Aktionsgruppe Banat Ad-hoc Collection at CNSAS

The Aktionsgruppe Banat Ad-hoc Collection reflects the type of cultural opposition represented by a group of Romanian-German writers, who founded together the literary circle Aktionsgruppe Banat and developed a neo-Marxist criticism of “really existing socialism.” The collection comprises two types of items: (1) manuscripts and other materials confiscated by the Securitate from these writers, (2) documents issued by the Securitate concerning their cultural activity, which the communist regime perceived as dangerous.
