Following the death of Roger Loewig in 1997, the artistic legacy was bestowed by the Roger Loewig Association. Since 2000 it is preserved by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. The aim was to facilitate Roger Loewig's artistic legacy for study and preservation, but nevertheless to make the collection public and accessible.
