The Mojmir Vanek collection is a unique collection of materials that relate to the life and activities of Mojmir Vanek. The activities of this distinctive, albeit unknown, Czechoslovak exile was very important for the dissemination of Czech music abroad, as well as his activities within the Society for Science and Art, the Swiss branch of which he presided over for many years. The collection was largely based on correspondence with Mojmir Vanek and his associates within the Society for Science and Arts. Vanek himself did not seek the creation of this collection, nor did he actively keep his materials on his own. These are materials that have been collected from various places primarily thanks to the work of Vanek’s sister, Marie Hajznerová.
The Comenius Museum in Přerov received this collection thanks to the gift of Dr. Karel Hrubý of Basel, Mrs. Marie Hajznerová of Olomouc and Dr. František Hýbl of Přerov. Dr. Hýbl knew Vanek personally, thanks to his friendship with his sister Marie Vaňková-Hajznerová. After the revolution, Hybl met Vanek in Olomouc and, after Vanek’s death, Hybl sought to get as many materials on the life and activities of Professor Vaněk as possible. Thanks to the contacts of Marie Hajznerová, Hybl managed to contact Karel Hrubý from Basel, who helped him to bring the materials from Switzerland to Olomouc. František Hýbl was then able to put them with materials from Mrs. Hajznerová and the materials he had already collected, which were within the archive of the Comenius Museum in Přerov, where he was the director at that time and where the collection is still kept. Before Vaněk died, Hýbl felt that it was necessary to document the life of this important person and he asked Vaněk to write his own CV and send it to him so Hybl could store it with the other letters. The CV is six pages and is still kept in Přerov.
Collecting those documents was not easy, at times requiring lengthy correspondence and took almost ten years. For this reason, this collection as a whole was not included in the museum's collection until 1999. At the time of donating this collection to the museum, no inventory was logged; it was created only after these archival materials were designated as one collection and were archived in the department of the history of education archival records. The inventory was prepared by Mgr. Helena Kovářová (nee Jakešová). The donors of the collection include Oldřich Černý of Geneva and Karel Hrubý of Basel. Part of the material was brought to Czech Republic by Vladimír Roskovec from the Ministry of Education of the Czech Republic in 1999.
